How can you not love Clay Guida? He is the got the heart of a warrior, an iron chin and crazy as hell. Reminds me of those insane pro wrestlers from the 90s with the long hair. I'm a Diego Sanchez fan so this was an awesome fight even before it happened.

10-8 s, 10-9 g, 10-9 g; should be a draw. i dislike both of these fighters and have the luxury of being completely objective. in all likelihood, if the judges had the luxury of deliberation and re-watching the fight, then they would say the same thing. in the legal system, juries don't have to make a decision in real-time; fights that go the distance should be deliberated - particularly if there is a split-decision.

Well, good fighters have strategy. Look at Fedor, Anderson Silva, GSP, they don't rush into the fight trying to throw kicks and punches. They capitalize on opponents mistakes. They would kill any opponent if he fights just like those two. No wonder those two are not in top 10 lightweights.

I could see this going either way or a even tie. I gave a 10-9 win to Diego only because Guida did get that one takedown. Second round was a close call, but I gave it to Guida even though he was busted up because he controlled the whole round and didn't look phased even though he cut badly. What really tipped it for me was that the last round. It was so close that I had to use the "who looks like they took an ass-kicking?" test because it would decide the fight. By that standard Guida definitely looked the worst for wear. Great fight though. As a side note, Clay needs to do something about that hair. I know it's his trademark but it clearly affected his ability to fight. He needs to either cut it or braid it.

best fight i've seen in a while. it was close, but i had it scored 29-27.
Round 1- 10-8 Diego. he dominated from beginning to end
Round 2- 10-9 Guida. Diego had good elbows, but Guida had the takedown and did good ground n pound.
Round 3- 10-9 Diego. Diego won the standup for the 1st 3 minutes, and when he got taken down, he immediately tried for a submission while and Guido didn't inflict and damage.

Crazy fight! I wanted it to keep going! Clay looked like he could have gone another 3. They really should consider making all fights 5 rounds....
I was really digging those right counters by Clay in the 3rd round. Honestly, Diego's stand-up is overall better but Clay was starting to get his rhythm and distance and catch up to Diego in that 3rd. Diego didn't have nearly as easy a time getting him then. Part of that too was Clay's seemingly never-ending stamina. If the fight had kept going it would have worked in Clay's favor, though I have to say Diego's ground game off his back was excellent. Nice, active guard -- especially that far guard with the elbows (very brutal) -- and lots of submission attempts.
Great fight though. The way Clay bounced back after that vicious kick reminded me of Urijah Faber whenever he gets taken down: he just literally bounces back up like nothing happened.

Even though Diego definitely did more damage overall, in terms of scoring, I think Guida won by this boxing scoring system. Guida probably squeeked out the 2nd and 3rd round, and Guida's brief takedown and GnP in the 1st round should probably have prevented a 10-8 round from Diego. So I score it 29-28 Guida. Although it was so close that I would have no issue with a Judge scoring it 30-26 Diego.
I bet judges take liberties... like since Diego dominated so much in the 1st round, they probably had that influence themselves into giving Diego the 2nd or 3rd round as they were so close.

I'm not a huge fighting fan and I dont keep score cards or anything like that. I do enjoy watching people fight, and what I saw was diego beating clay's head from the stand up and while on his back. All I saw clay do was take an amazing beating and shoot diego's legs a couple of times for the takedown. I do give clay some credit for the takedowns and throwing a few fists and elbows while ontop, but most of those strikes were defened against. Other than that all clay did was spend most of his time ontop stopping diego from submitting him or let him transition to a better postion. I really can't see how clay could have won this fight. Sorry Clay fans but he lost suck it up.

I personally think any split decision should be counted as a draw for rankings =0~ Personally I would rather they just scored it as a draw but that won't happen. In my mind if all three judges can't agree on who won a brawl then nobody won.

guida should'nt have stood in front of those flying knees.....he should'nt have been in the way of all those uppercuts .....he shouldnt have let diego just up & kick him in the head....he should'nt have bled so much.....................''IF'' he fought diegos grandma, he could have won,or at the least, gotten that draw so many of you think it was.....i like guida tho,if he expands his abilities he'll be very hard to beat,if he does'nt,he may end up being one of them 'gate-keepers' for future up and comers...that would be a shame.

AMAZING FIGHT Round 1 Was as close to a 10-8 round as you can get diego knocked guida down with that beautiful head kick and almost finished him when the round first started with some nice uppercuts. Round 2 I guess I gave to guida he did ok on top. Diego was pretty good with going for submissions when they were there. Round 3 was close guida landed a few hard punches this round but Diego landed more i think. And diego was always trying for a submission when on bottom Overall I gave the 3hird round to diego and the fight of course to diego. VERY ENTERTAING FIGHT

Most of you are wrong its obvious that sanchez had won the fight if you thought clay won your wrong. sorry to say im a huge clay guida fan.. but he lost first round easily 10-8 for sanchez and second round was close ya clay had the takedown but look who did most of the damage and pushed harder sanchez landed more shots with his elbos than clay had on top and diego tried to submit clay. and ya the 3rd round was close to clay did better standing up and i might have to give him the round but technically diego got the takedown and almost had guida in an arm triangle... but it was a well fought fight clay is amazing still love you, you have an amazing chin but you did lose come back next time and run there asses over. and advice for diego dont let it go to decision finish it like you should have... and instead of seeing diego get the next title fight id rather see him go against roger huerta for the next title oppurtunity...go roger lol you deserve a title contension.!

how can u say guida should have won??? u obviously dont know ur scoring..
first round went to diego for sure...
second round went to diego as well and this is why... even though he was on the bottom, diego was hurting him w the elbows and going to submissions.. as for guida... well he got a take down and thats pretty much it.. didnt really do anything w it..
3rd rd was pretty close i thought but it could have gone either way so if anything, the score should be 30 28...
just cuz u have the take down doesnt mean u have the round.., u gotta do something with it...

DIEGO IS A FORCE OF NATURE...why is guida called the carpenter anyway? cuz he gets wood when dry humping his opponents? but seriously....diego needs guard work,& guida needs striking work....they both should have learned from this one...i thought clay was done, uppercuts, flying knees, head kicks, but his hair prob. acted like a helmet....but i was impressed how he nullified diegos grappling, which may have lost a little edge after so much focus on striking....FIGHT OF THE NIGHT& best one i've seen in a while!

couldn't agree more. Honestly judges are blowing off these fights and giving it to the guy who did not win. Diego is a good fighter but the dude lost fair and square. Guida deserves that title shot and everyone knows it

Split decision? Are you serious? Sanchez dominated every round from every position. On the feet, Guida was destroyed by a more polished striker. Guida had some excellent takedowns, but Sanchez was atleast as effective with elbows and working for submissions than Guida was at landing blows. You couldn't even say Guida had better ring control, as he usually does, since both fighters backed the other up. The judge who scored the fight 29,27 Sanchez was a correct score, but 29,28 Guida? I didn't know Ray Charles was a judge...

REALLY?
I think a coherent and logical argument can be made for a draw but the fact remains that Diego was by far the superior fighter tonight and apart from Guida's heart/chin I can't see why so many people are singing his praises.
The guy is the master of lay 'n' pray, just watch the travesty of a fight between him and Nate Diaz - Nate did all the damage, attempted submissions and Guida pulls out the decision based on 3 rounds of dry humping.
This is not to say that I don't think that Guida is a good fighter, he is deft at nullifying his opponent's strengths, just that in spite of his frenetic pace, he is a boring fighter.

I dont even think Diego landed a punch in the 3rd round. He didnt do anything. Every time Diego elbowed him, Guida countered with punches. Besides, Guida controlled the match on top for 2 rounds. This was a joke, they probably gave Diego the fight because they want him to compete for the belt.

"Guida won last 2 rounds............................................. "
Agreed. Just cuz Diego landed some elbows on bottom doesnt mean you give him the round. Ridiculous. Guida won. t should have been at leat a draw. Maybe you give diego a 10-8 in the the first round. But I dont since guida took him down.

guida is a ridicolously tough guy to take the beating he took in that first round and make it a fight.

guida took him down and did very little damage afterwards while sanchez did adequate damage the entire fight. many lesser fighters would have crumbled. intense first round!

Diego definitely won that, first round (i was thinking 10-8 in that round right away too) and third round for sure and i think there's a case that he even won the second, inflicted way more damage even tho Guida controlled him from the top.... But wow what a fight, it's hard not to like either of them after that

If Guida cuts his hair or at least braid it or put it in a ponytail, he might be more affective and wont have to bother with not seeing punches and wiping hair out of his face

Quote-Guida should have won he was pounding him in the ground even though he was bleeding
What Dirty Sanchez done lots more damage from his back then Clay Guida done fron top position. Guida has some heart and a solid chin but the score cards were not even a split IMO. The damage from the bottom was huge and that is what really cut Guida.

If Sanchez would have settled down a little bit more and pick his punches better after Guida was hurt in the 1st min., he could have knocked Guida out.

incredible fight, just like I thought it would be!
fantastic chin of Guida...did you see the high kick to the head? Most guys would have been ktfo! Most guys would have been ktfo after the first round beating Diego gave as well.
WOW, Diego's crazy elbows from the bottom. They were devastating!
Easily fight of the night and could very well be fight of the year!
