Is Kimbo a Mixed Martials Artits?

"What has the guy done to deserve to be in the UFC? Nothing. I don’t consider him a real athlete or anything. He won’t win The Ultimate Fighter." Such were the words of UFC president Dana White at the post-fight press conference following UFC 90 last October when asked about the sensationalism of Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. "The offer is out there if he wants to take it and he won’t win it."

Living up to his end of the bargain, White has welcomed Kimbo to The Ultimate Fighter, building season ten as a competition based solely on heavyweights, just as he had mentioned late that night in the Windy City.

The season, dubbed "The Ultimate Fighter: The Heavyweights" not "The Ultimate Fighter: Kimbo" as some might think, already generated plenty of general fan interest due to the heat between coaches Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans. Jackson actually passed on a shot at regaining the UFC light heavyweight title from Lyoto Machida to accept the slot on The Ultimate Fighter with a promised grudge match with Evans waiting for him in December.

The addition of Kimbo, especially with White's past criticisms of him, only serves to ratchet up the intensity of show, and fan interest, and thusly ratings... by say a factor of 10. It's already being talked about as potentially the biggest ratings grabber in the reality series' history.

"I don't know if there's anybody I've talked more smack about than this guy," said White on a recent edition of the Carmichael Dave radio show, although Gary Shaw and "the t-shirt guys" might dispute that statement. "Basically what I said was, the only way this guy ever gets into the UFC is if he did The Ultimate Fighter."

    I'd like to see kimbo go far. He has a pretty strong athletic background and it could be(it's a stretch) considered a former NFL player. watch the video of the WWE or whatever guy goldberg training with him and getting gassed while kimbo is still breathing through his nose. Anyway, does anyone know who's team kimbo is on? even's or jackson"s?

    Kimbo can kick some ass. You say he got a weak chin cause last time he got knocked out. So i guess everyone who been knocked out has no chin, right. Get the f*** out of here watch some off his street brawls. Train him a little with ground game thats all, then set his loose. Dana just doesnt want to see him knock his boys out. Dana White is a pussy, Id like to see Kimbo knock him the f*** out. Its not like you need to study the ground game for years to get good its not a hard concept.

    he got kod by a jab!!! and letsnot forget he has an extra 8oz of padding on his face with that ugly ass beard. and every 1 has seen his youtube fights he faught straight up bums that couldnt punch their way out of a wet paper bag. only one that had skills was shaun gannon and he beat kimbo down. kimbo has no chance in mma i think dana white did this to prove a point that kimbo will never make it in the ufc.

    the key word is mixed martial artist, not martial artist. yes, he could be considered a mixed martial artist but probably not a martial artist.

    Studying martial arts doesn't make you a real martial artist. That's why alot of real martial artists don't really consider MMA martial arts, and the two practices don't even look remotely the same.

    "Durr i took bjj and muay thai like 5 million udder guys so i am real martial artists or i beat u down"

    If Leznar, Tank Abbott and alot of the pure wrestlers are considered mmartists, then Kimbo is a mmartists. All fighters dont have to have the same background, they all start somewhere.

    Madness is an idiot. George St. Pierre isn't a martial artist? He studied karate then BJJ. It was sometime later that he decided to be a PROFESSIONAL MARTIAL ARTIST. Even Tank Abbott is a martial artist in the sense that he's studied boxing and wrestling.

    Also, I find it rather sad they had a typo in the article. Don't they use spellcheck?

    He wasnt even a pro when he fought Sean and Sean was a pro. You cant judge anything off of that fight and it shows you have no idea about the fight game. you are just arguing just to argue because you dont like him.

    I don't even consider most fighters in MMA to be martial artists. Machida And Anderson silva i consider martial artists, GSP is an athlete who decided to fight,Franklin is a guy who decided to study fighting....majority are just trained sluggers and that's how Dana likes them because there is less thinking and easier to manipulate.

    He gets knocked out by a fluke phantom punch and he has no chin? Alot of people are no better than those i just mentioned it seemed. Look at the crazy amount of headshots he took on the youtube vids without being phased, i can't remember too many MMA guys taking that kind of punishment

    if kimbo gets a shot i sure as hell should..

    the only reason kimbo is even on here is to show hes not a mixed martal artist..

    we know hes street fighter but come on street versus the top MMA FIghters..no kimbo is not going to make it in the ufc

    He only has 3 or 4 fights. 95 percent of the fighters on this seasons show have double that amount.

    How can anyone say he doesnt have a chin when he only has 1 loss, its not like hes been knocked out 5 or 6 times. Yes, he is a mixed martial artists because he trains and tries to learn like any other fighter. Alot of people says hes not simply because they dont like him. Whether you like him or not he trains and he fights, which means he is a mm artist.

    I think Kimbo is good for the show and believe he has a shot like anyone else.
    For ppl who think he has no chin is just plan stupid. All who know anything about fighting know that at any piont in a fight some one can get cought and go down,Bisedes I thought they prove that Elite XC was a shame anyway. Kimbo really needs some work esp. the ground game But like all others He will just have to Practice. One thing for sure he will have a target on his back so he will have to try extra hard. For Dana White to talk smack about Kimbo is crazy. Kimbo generated more of a Buzz for the sport than broc Lesnar,Machida,or Rashad Evans

    i dont think so. he has no chin and no groundgame!!! for every fighter with good bjj or wrestling he will easily to beat! i hope no TUF 10 rookie is scared about his name and his you tube videos^^
