Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort not happening at UFC 108 in Jan

While the recovery from a recent elbow surgery is going just fine for UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, Jan. 2 will simply be too soon for him to return to action.

MMAjunkie today spoke with Silva's manager, Ed Soares, who issued the update on "The Spider."

"The latest is he's not fighting Jan. 2," Soares said. "That's not going to happen. He won't be ready."


Silva recently had bone spurs removed from his right elbow, and the rehabilitation necessary following the procedure means Silva won't be ready to defend his title in a proposed UFC 108 matchup with Vitor Belfort.

As for when Silva will be ready to fight again, Soares said nothing is yet certain.

"We have to wait and see," Soares said. "Anderson went back to Brazil, and he's continuing his physical therapy there. But there's no set date yet."

    Man, I wouldn't want to pay a single dime for the UFC cards WITH the scheduled main events!

    Now, I need the UFC to PAY ME to watch their crappy cards! That sucks! Strikeforce has much better quality cards right now!

    I can't wait for Fedor vs Rogers! Fedor is the best, but Rogers has some serious knockout power! He knocked out UFC champ and fan favorite Arlovski in 10 SEC! That's dangerous, still Fedor is the best!

    The UFC can't even keep ridiculous fights like Tito vs Coleman and Carwin vs Brock, now they give us Kimbo vs Alexander, Tito vs Griffin, Couture vs Vera, ....

    UFC 108 will still be great. Silva and Belfort could headline a main event at a later date anyway. Yes there's been a lot of injuries, and No it doesnt help Strikeforce, you know why? That's because those Injured fighters are Still in the UFC.

    if the fight of DIEGO VS BJ some how gets cancelled i wont see the ufc until 2010!!!! thats it! and i will become a strikeforce hard core fan!!

    Hmm I bet Dana thought that UFC 108 was a good enough card, so he pulled that fight out, because he would be paying too much to the fighters, and it wouldn't make that much of a difference on PPVs
