Bisping compares Wanderlei to Chris Leben

Michael "The Count" Bisping took time out of training to speak to the British newspaper Daily Telegraph, to discuss his upcoming match up with Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva at the co-main event of UFC 110 in Australia, on February 20th:

"Stylistically, the fight may be similar to the one I had with Chris Leben in October 2008. Leben was a tough, aggressive guy with some highlight reel knockouts on his record and he really brought the fight to me. He also throws similarly wild and looping punches to Wanderlei.

I had to use my speed and straighter punches to beat Leben and the same thing may come into play with Wanderlei. I’d say Wanderlei is a bit quicker and more explosive than Leben overall. Obviously the  plans won’t be the same, but in terms of style there are similarities between the two of them. I’m not going to fight Wanderlei the way I did Leben, but I may draw on my fight with Leben to help me beat Wanderlei. Whichever way I have to fight, the end  will be the same, my arm will be raised!"

Michael Bisping defeated Chris Leben via Unanimous Decision at the main event of UFC 89, more than a year ago. "The Crippler" Leben was tested positive for steroids after the fight and received a 9-months suspension from fighting.

    personally i hope Wand smashes this dude and then when the reff tries to stopthe fight he throws him off him and smashes on bisping's head for like a good 10 seconds more ....

    Horrible fighter? Silva didn't lose a fight for 4 years, he had a 16 fight win streak where he beat the best lhw's and even fought in heavyweight division, silva is one of the best mma fighters ever, hes a legend

    heard if he took a year off and just applied boxing skills... hed be the wand of pride all over again.... this is possible, wand is old in fight years, just like big Nog.. but hes still a young guy.....

    Am i the only person excited for this fight?
    i would love to see bisping rise to the challenge and havea good match with a true mma legend but i would also love to see him get knocked out.
    IMHO bisping seems to have grown more as a person since the loss to henderson. when he compares silva to leben he does so in a way that is not demeaning, but rather a proper analysis of the two fighters.

    If he thinks that he is going to run around the cage throwing jabs for 3 rounds..scoring points on being a track star... like he did to Leben ..he is dead ass wrong. Wand will close the distance and cut him off with angles...I see Wand getting him in a nice clinch and kneeing his face in like he did to Rampage back in Pride.Bitchbing will not win this fight, and if he does..it's sadly time for Wanderlei to retire if loses to this top 25 fighter.

    Ive said this for a while now, that i can see this fight going like the leben vs bisping fight. Not because of anything bad about wanderlei, but he doesnt rush full force in anymore. He rushes in, lets go a few strikes, but then kind of backs off...

    They arent comparing how tough Leben and Silva are, they are comparing their aggressive styles. And for someone like bisping who may hit you as light as a feather, he still has worked on his boxing tremendously and i can see him staying far far back and just jabbing silva to the final bell.

    No Ryan, you aren't the only one excited for this fight, i'm pumped too, i'm really getting sick of all this unfounded negativity towards Mike though, every fighter is going to have fans and haters but the amount of shit this guys taking is unreal, and ......for what!? You guys just don't get it do you, Wandy is WAY past his prime, still dangerous, yes, someone to fear, no, not anymore. Five years ago i would have probably picked Wanderlei to win myself, but today, bieng realistic, i can't see it happening................

    How can a Brasilian - called The Axel Schulz Murderer - with a record of 2 wins 10 losses and 3 draws with 4 no contest due to strikes to the ringgirls be a mixed martial arzt legend,...

    my prediction is bisping wins via running reverse kimura round 1 and then maybe he will get a crack at the Moti Horenstein/Akihira Phono (StepDaughter of Akihiro Gonos Uncle - Akihuro Mono),...

    that is 32-10-2...only 30 wins off...Like Toyota...you don't know MMA. As for Bisping talking about Leben's highlight reel knockouts, isping has one too, and a speech impediment from it. Not even getting totally embarassed by being the reciepient of the knockout of the year can humble this guy enough to show respect

    He won't top that KO, not many in the history of MMA do top that KO. He'll completely batter Bispbing though. Bispbing can't cope with those wild haymakers.

    why bring the fact he's a fall of famer in to it? hes stating his fighting style is similar to Leben's, which, it is. I love wand but i hope bisping wins just to shut up all you fat yank trolls.

    Wand has lost 5 of his last 6 fights, Bisping has won 4 of his last 6 fights. Bisping has been fighting lesser competition overall though. Both have been KO'd by Hendo.

    Wand is on a losing streak, mentally he is not the same as he was, his chin has been remodelled in glass with a big neon sign that says - Hit Me Here To Make Me Fall Over.

    Bisping is coming off a win over Kang, his comfidence is up and he will take a chance here and there most likely. I doubt he could have
    taken Wand in his prime, but that was a long time back.

    Wand needs a chump fight to get his mojo back, but i don't think this is the right chump, I don't like Bisping - he thinks he is much better than his record shows. Also i am not big on invoking family for countdown bleeding heart shows, i don't care if they have a wife and kids or they are living in a gay homeless facility in downtown Budapest.

    Both got defeated miserably at 205 in the UFC and sent back to 185 to lick their wounds. Either way Wand needs this win or he is moving to Strikeforce with Hendo.

    This should be a good fight, not a great one, but a hell of a lot better than Couture vs Coleman. I would like to Wand tackle Couture if he manages a win.

    I have to agree. I don't think Wand is so much as out of his prime as he is simply figured out: stay out of close range and time his looping punches. Bisping will simply side step and throw straight punches. I'm guessing he has a reach advantage too, though I can't say for certain. If I had to bet, I'd bet on Bisping. Kills me to say that as I think the guy's a conceited prick, but that's the reality of it all.

    However, I'm not sure if they'll cut Wandy. Dana really likes Wandy as he always puts up an exciting fight, so he might just keep him for the fact that he's still a big draw and is never boring.

    Silva has great ground game and heavy hands this is a guy who use to fight way bigger guys sub...and ko....... beat Dan which was a great fight
