No stranger to trash talking, World Champion boxer James Toney is now calling out UFC's Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar. While he is set to meet Randy Couture at UFC 118 on August 28th, Toney explains Brock Lesnar was his first choice for his first Mixed Martial Arts bout:
“I couldn’t come in the UFC and fight a bum, or a tune up fight. I have to fight the best. I am the best. I wanted to fight Brock Lesnar, but unfortunately at the time he was sick,” Toney said to MMAWeekly Radio.
“I will be boxing and UFC champion at the same time,” proclaimed the boxer. “I’m officially a two-sport athlete. After I knock out Randy Couture, I’m coming for Brock’s bitch ass next.”
Toney wants to go out on UFC 118 to prove he is the worlds best fighter, and that boxing is superior to MMA. While based on their styles alone, Lesnar and Couture are more than a match for him inside the cage, Toney says he never turns down a fight
“I don’t turn down nothing. Sometimes I don’t even turn down my collar,” joked Toney.
A lot of eyes will be watching to see if any of James Toney's MMA training will come into effect in the fight, or if he will simply revert to his boxing roots, where as Couture will look to put Toney on his back, and bring a whole world of pain.
Nobody is certain if Toney will continue to pursue MMA after the Couture fight, but Toney is certain of one thing: If he wins, he wants the title shot.

he just knows where the money is and if he talks enough chit he might get it but he would have to beat Randy.......he would of had a higher power
on his side....plus when Randy beats him knock on wood it will most likely be in dominate fashion, not sure how he will take that...I really
hope Randy crushes him I really hate how he disrespects MMA fighters
and fans...but he cant get a fight in boxing and is training for takedown
defence...and is the hardest he has ever done but if you have ever seen
his training its not like a GSP training session or Rashad, where they are
doing ropes, sleds,hammers&tires;........Toney"s is still more like old
school boxing

I actually agree. Lesner would destroy Toney. The only HW I see Toney doing well against is Kongo and that is a BIG maybe. IMHO Kongo leg kicks Toney into oblivion.

Ya Kongo has pretty good takedowns actually. I see Toney beating a guy like JDS IF he got the wrong idea to try and box with Toney

why? this is the first freak show fight in recent memory for the ufc.
the fact is, dana white and a lot of fighters are tired of being compared to boxers and this is an opportunity for the MMA crowd to prove that boxing is not "the" martial art. despite being in his 40's toney is still relevant and competing in boxing so this fight will not be a complete joke. regardless, coture will take him down and flatten his face with elbows and hammer fists.

Did my opinion hurt your UFC feelings? Kimbo, Tooney, Nelson...who next? Before Nelson gut huggers start going off, he'll never be champ in ANY division...he should invest what hes made in McDonalds.

Couture is going to run a clinic on this guy and win by TKO or submission. After Randy owns him, Dana will cut Toney and we won't hear any more of his BS.

They obviously need to do a better job diagnosing concussions for these guys. The level of delusion from Toney and Sonnen is incredible.

Toney yes but Sonnen is a legit contender, and rated in the top 3 of most people's (who know what they are talking about) rank charts

I'm sorry but Brock would not stand with Toney. Toney would be on his back 5 seconds into the fight. Toney does not have Carwin's takedown defense or wrestling.

That fight would end in a first round submission. Gurantee it. Atleast with Couture, he has a chance because in the clinch (Which is Couture's bread and butter), atleast he can throw a few punches on the inside and maybe get a lucky shot in.
But with Brock he will be on his back within 10 seconds of the bell sounding.

I hate the guy but if he knocks-out Randy, he has a legit chance to do the same with Lesnar.
Unless someone here thinks that Brock has better stand-up and wrestling skills than Randy has. I DOUBT iT
