Matt Hughes Blames Bad Coaching On Evans Loss To Machida

Matt Hughes gives his thoughts via his blog on the UFC 98 main event between Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida:
“I went back and watched the Rashad fight again, and I think it comes down to bad coaching. In the prefight press conference, I heard Rashad say that he didn’t bring anybody in who would resemble Machida’s style. When I heard that, I knew that there might be some problems. That is probably a big reason why Rashad didn’t do very well in the striking area. I also think Rashad should have been coached on using his wrestling talent. He didn’t shoot one takedown that I can remember and he just made it a sparring match. If I was to coach Rashad against Machida, I would have told him to make it a fight, use his wrestling and groundwork to really dictate the match. Not just go out and spar with him. I think Rashad could have done a lot better in that fight. I’m not saying he should have won, but he’s a lot better than he showed on Saturday.”

Hughes is right
Rashad should have used a different game plan..it would have made it a longer fight...i don't understandt the "love on" for Rashad, he's not a great entertainer but at least he's tryin...i think Shogun could stop Machida if he get's it together. And hits the weights.

You know, they said they didn't bring anyone in to emulate Machida, did hughes sit back and think about that before he said it? Who the hell are you going to get to emulate his style? He's been studying karate since he was a child, he's also a black belt in BJJ, and overall he's very well rounded and unique at the moment. It's going to be really hard to find someone like him to train with.

My bad "anonymous", it's not like this is a sport where matches are based on what a fighter does or doesn't do, it's either he wins and guys like you ride him or he loses and he sucks...strategy is a bad word.
Keep riding goofy, but remember hughes won too so you've got you owe him time in the saddle. Here's your balloon

I kind agree with Hughes. I think Rashad used the wrong strategy, to stand in front of Lyoto and basically being a target. He shoud`ve tried to take him down and ground n pound, that`s my opinion.

It does not matter Rashad would have lost anyway. Machida can defend takedowns and hes strong in the clinch. don't base Machidas skills just on his UFC fights.

Actually the knockout was Machidas patented straight left. You can see him back off a bit before he throws it.

madness doesn't matter what he could have done he didn't do it. rashad is dumb for even trying to box with him he didn't shoot cause he was cocky and thought he could knock out anyone he messed up that's that. Karate's BACK! lol

Thankyou anonymous d***rider. It's pretty damn obvious rashad could ahve done better..he was undefeated before right? Isn't that why guys like you ride fedor?
Pretty damn obvious he needed to do something other than try to box with machida...did you even watch the fight? he barely even threw any kicks, if machida can dodge anything someone throws at him so far, dodging nothing but punches is basically a vacation.
Help stop stupid, bash "anonymous" posters.
