Mauricio Rua Agrees to Take His Next Loss This Fall

Did all our hand-wringing change nothing? According to reports today from MMA Weekly and SuperLutas, Mauricio Rua has signed a bout agreement to be the first challenger for Lyoto Machida's light-heavyweight title, in a fight that will come sometime this fall — most likely at UFC 104 in Los Angeles. How official is this news? Well, the UFC hasn't announced it yet, and Machida has only put a question mark over the photo of Rampage on his website. But it's looking like a done deal, unless Machida has a crisis of conscience and refuses to sign his own bout agreement, on the grounds that all Shogun did to deserve a title shot was beat up two broken-down former champs who came in with an average age of 41.5. Unfortunately, Machida seems like one of those "I'll fight whoever the UFC puts in front of me" type-guys, so there you go. Don't hurt him too bad, Lyoto...

Retarded article written by a UFC fanboy who apparently knows nothing about Shogun. He's had one been beaten three times, one as an inexperienced fighter against Sobral, one on a unlucky landing against Coleman (which broke his arm) and one against Griffin catching him off guard as basically a rookie coming off the first TUF and also by the fact that Shogun got a knee injury during training. After that he got surgery and was out for almost 1 1/2 YEARS before being thrown back into the Coleman rematch, of course his cardio is gonna suck! People who make stupid comments about fighters like SHogun and Cro cop (who had a similar injury) are just plain stupid and ironically probably the same people who loved on Machida before Evans! Rampage you say?? Well, Shogun destroyed Rampage in 1 round back in '05...

Machida is a better stand up fighter than rua but... let's see what happens on the ground...
for rua is easy to carry the fight to the ground

Rua is strong and very agressive, but needs to stop being so wild, thats what gasses him out.

Rua had a hell of a time trying to take out an old gassed out Mark Coleman, who we both know has no stand-up yet he was hitting Rua with those slow ugly jabs. If Coleman can hit him, Rua needs to progress.

I dont think so!! He is on the Way back!! A injury free Rua, who will be at his physical best Shape, is for me the top Contender!!! Rampage is a strong Fighter, but today i think Machida, Rua and Evans are better!!!

Rua is not stronger than Rampage. He beat Rampage years ago when Rampage didnt know how to train. Would be a whole different story now. Rua looks sloppy as hell in all of his later fights.

shogun is going to make all his na sayers eat crow just like the previous fight. a injury free rua who will be at his physical best since 2005 in 2006 elbow surgery put him on the shelf followed by 2007 nee ingury suffered while training for forrrest and ulttimately tearing it completly durring the fight.in 2008 training for chuck he tore the same nee needing a second surgey.it will be 9 or 10 months when the machida fight roles around since being cleared to return to full trainnig.

"Take His Next Loss This Fall"????

The author of this little blurb is an uninformed biased jackass! While Machida would obviously be the favorite to win, anyone who knows a thing about this sport knows that upsets occur on a regular basis, and to rule out someone of Sho gun's calibre is ludicrous!!!! What a moron!

Im not going to count Shogun out, but he cant be wild and sloppy against Machida. He beat Rampage when Rampages training wasnt up to par. Rampage is alot more dangerous than he used to be, but I dont see where Rua has progressed, as a matter of fact Rua was kinda of sloppy and gassed againt F. Griffin too.

IF Shogun gets in there fighting the way he did against Mark Coleman hes in bad trouble. Mark Coleman has no stand up whatsoever and was hitting Shogun with the slowest, ugliest jabs in mma history. Though he finally finished Coleman he looked very gassed and wild. Machida is way to accurate to be fighting a sloppy fight against.

If you believe that Shogun rua will be easy pickings for machida then I think you crazy. Rua is finally showing us signs of the shogun who dominated in Pride FC. Machida I believe will win that fight but I don't think it will be easy as people think it is. and about rampage jackson i think that is is a well rounded fighter, i think he needs to revive his wrestling skills and study some jiu jistu and add kicks to his fights, if he does that rampage will be back stronger than ever and more dangerous

i dont see how u can count Rua out. Get off Rampage's nuts, o and rampage only was champion once because he beat a broken-down former champs who came in with an average age of 41.5.

This is a better match-up for Lyoto. A healthy (hopefully) Rua is a more well rounded fighter than Rampage.
