    it was for ben's own wellbeing that steve stopped the fight. The safety of the fighters is whats most important. If things like this dont happen people will just look at this as a vicious sport which it isn't at all

    Well Rothwell wasnt intelligently defending him self and plus it looked like the arm that Cain had pinned up fell after a couple of hits to the face so he looked out to me bout like the Trigg/Koscheck fight as put by Joe Rogan "He wasnt unconscious but he was on his way!!"

    Shogun strategy was NOT enough to win
    No takedowns from Rua, many kicks didnt land....
    I'd like to see a rematch....

    Stoppages should not involve the subjective analysis of who is "dominating" a fight. Time and time again, a fighter gets "dominated," holds on, and comes out with a surprising ending. (Read: Big Nog.)

    That said; I don't think anyone will be screaming for a rematch of this fight. Pretty one sided.

    Would love to see Cain against Nog next. Would be be interesting to see what Velasquez would do when taking someone down would place him at a huge submission risk.

    I wouldnt call this an early stoppage, there was so sign of Rothwell giving any sort of offence, it would of just been another round and a half of a beating, those punches were hitting hard and it was only a matter of time before he would of caused Rothwell some permanent damage.

    Premature stoppage, but Dominating performance by Cain. He did Amazingly well considering the experience and size of Rothwell.Its great to see a Mexican fighter dominate like he has. It would be nice to see him for a shot at the title in the near future. With more wins from Cain, MMA is surely going to spread a lot more amongst the Latinos, which is very good for MMA.

    Nogueira should get the next title shot most probably against Brock after he wins another poor judged decision next month since Cain is still a kid and still improving. A definite future Heavyweight champion IMO. The fight I would love to see is Junior Dos Santos and Valasquez. Frank Mir is another possibility if he overcomes Kongo

    Rothwell look slower that a waterbuffalo...
    He needs to loose 20lbs. If he did that and worked on his speed he would not only be quicker on his take down defense but prbably improve his offensive stand up...
    I do give him heart and basically fighting his way up to his feet from cains take downs.

    The issue isn't whether or not the stoppage was deserved. Obviously Big Ben getting the ever-loving sh*t beat out of him. The problem was, and what Joe Rogan correctly pointed out, that the fight was stopped at a bad time. Obviously, Rothwell was taking the beating well since he was standing up as the fight was stopped. C'mon now... are you seriously concerned about the long-term welfare of Ben Rothwell or would you rather see a great fight play out to a solid conclusion, without the subjective judgement of Steve Mazzagati (of all people)? Let 'em fight!

    This was a dominating performance the fight should have been stopped in the first, and when it was stopped Rothwell was attempting to get up but he also took 6 straight shots to the face he probably could have kept going but it would have ended soon either way I think.

    I think Cain has a very good chance to be the HW champ

    this fight could have gone longer Cain doesn't really hit that hard thats why he lands so many punches and still has it go to decision. i think rothwell would have lost anyways just to the takedowns but he was still good to go. he was intellegently defending etc...... shogun might have got robbed, he dominated with leg kicks. BUT he didn't do anything to really even get the champ in a KO/TKO situation. machida i think did more in the exchanges,knee's to the head,landed more punches etc... but shogun was beating his legs like a dirty rug, the judges must not have thought much of them.

    That was a domination, but the fight was stopped early, he was standing up. I've seen guys get battered and come back for the win, Rothwell didn't get that chance. Sure, he was loosing, but you don't win a fight because you're in the lead, you win it because you win a decision or you finish it. This wasn't a finish. Boooo.
