Urijah Faber talks about loss to Mike Brown, surgery and Jose Aldo

“First, I appreciate all the support from fans. I tried to do my thing out there. I burst out of the gates, and after my hand broke, I just tried to gut it out. I knew my hand was broken right away. I put it down by my hip, said fuck it, and started throwing kicks.”
“Soon after I slipped and fell. On the ground I realized I wouldn’t be able to grapple with my hand. After the round I told my Muay Thai instructor that my hand was broken, and he said, ‘Shut up … you’re a champion in your heart,’ which got my mind back in the fight. From there, I was in survival mode.”
“Not to take away from Brown, but I think the first round was how the rest of the fight would have gone. It was impossible for him to hit me. I definitely think I was headed toward victory. You can’t have something go wrong in a title fight though. It’s unfortunate — I don’t like to lose, but I will be back.”
“I watched the fight today and was surprised. I didn’t realize I dished out that much damage. In regard to the submission attempt, I couldn’t finish the move, man. I had it deep too but I didn’t have the hand strength to hold on and finish it.”

Urjiah " Cake" Faber, will always be overrated. Yeah, i mean he's cute, and about 5'8', but c mon man where are the real entertaining fighters. Urijah Faber/ Much respect for fighting other midgets, but good gosh people, when do we get off of his little scrotum? Its OVA people, urijah will always have little man syndrome. Im bout to make my pro debut, so i can say this stuff and back it up. Urijah has to understand that he really is a tiny person.

anyone see brown get the shit kicked out of him by jose aldo? yeah thats because hes a pussy...he has no game...1st fight with faber was a lucky elbow to the back of faber's head...second fight was lucky because faber broke his hand and still managed to put him into submissions...if his hand wasnt broken faber would have won by submission...he couldnt lock it up...as for brown...he will never get that belt back he just lost...jose aldo rocked his world...im looking forward to aldo and faber...now that will be a fight to watch

    finally...
someone finally agrees with me... both of these fighters (Brown and faber) are at the top of their class... no one can touch them. (except each other) as for Jose Aldo, he's not gonna last the entire 3 rounds with mike brown.

Urijah Faber is a world class fighter he dosen't say excuses. He was just unlucky with that punch that hit brown in the top of the head. There is no excuses for that. Im not saying urijah would have won but in the 5th round I though urijah had the choke in deep enough. He dislocated his left hand. If mike brown wouldn't have ducked then that punch in the first round where urijah broke his hand might have rocked him. Congratulations to Brown and in a year or so we will probably see brown vs faber 3. Even though brown won he got frustrated at times in the fight because urijah kept moving so brown couldn't go for the big punch. Urijah needs to stop saying that he would have won. In brown vs aldo it will be a good fight. The problem is I think jose aldo hasn't watched brown fight that much so he might not know what to do so that he can avoid that big right hand. Honestly i think if aldo gets hit by brown thats a good punch he will go down.

    Jose Aldo
Jose Aldo is a great fighter. I don't think he has what it takes to beat Mike Brown at 145 though. I think the only other fighter at 145 who can take Mike Brown is Urijah Faber. If I had to rank my top 5 P4P fighters in the world, they'd be: Lyoto Machida, Fedor Emelianenko, Urijah Faber, Mike Brown, and BJ Penn. Urijah Faber and Mike Brown are on a whole different level than the rest of the competition at 145. They have both proven it. For us to bicker back and forth about why he lost or he didnt deserve to win is pointless, they are two great fighters and both of them deserve their respect. Much love to Urijah for hangin in there for 4 rounds with broken hands, but much respect for Mike Brown for being one of only two people to ever beat Urijah.

Jose Aldo has the speed and potential to be a contender for the belt. Does he have the strength to beat Mike Brown? Brown fights a face paced, controlled fight, while Jose is more face paced spastic (not meaning that he is a spaz, but just to say that he is "jump the gun") That style doesn't seem to be a good idea on Mike Brown, at least it hasn't been a good idea in the past. All in all this will be an interesting fight.

Brown Won - over and out!
Look guys it not as if Faber broke his hand previous to the fight. He broke it on Browns head. Brown must have a hard head right? Part of his mojo. Nothing says Faber would not brake both hands next time. Twice he has fought the same opponent and twice he has lost. What ever the excuses Faber has not beaten Brown's mojo. Who cares if he has only one hand. Nothing says the fight would have developed differently if he had two good hands and put himself in a submission because of it - then the nay sayers would say, but Faber had two good hands - he would do better if hand none. Losers always have excuses. In any event Jose Aldo is here and he is getting better and better. He could take both Brown and Faber. Nice weight class!

    Faber is the champ
Anyone who thinks that Mike Brown would have won that fight if Urijah were healthy (the whole fight) shame on you! Urijah was bitchslapping brown in the head, now that is a champion! you have a broken hand along with a severly injured left hand, and all you are doing is throwing kicks and slaps against the 145lb "champion" of the world...I dont care what anyone says, Urijah is the champion. Mike Brown didnt WIN that fight, Urijah lost it. Guess what, when Faber comes back for it, Brown will meet his demise.

Mike Brown is a true bad ass, no doubt about it. He's one of the best in his division in the world. With that said, I don't understand how half of you guys are talking down on Urijah Faber. He went 4 rounds with a broken right hand (his main weapon) against one the best. He didn't give up like ya'll fools would have, he gutted it out and threw elbows. It was a gutsy display of heart and I think he showcased what being a MMA fighter is about. He took the L like a man and gave Brown his props he deserves. I think you critics are the type that will never be satisfied. Congrats to Brown and thanks Urijah for showing heart, something alot of men don't have these days.

Its easy for someone to sit behind their keyboard and talk smack when nobody is looking back at you. Its also just as easy to for you watch this on TV or your computer and be a critic. Everybody has their opinion and it doesn't make you right or wrong. But for you to call someone out and attack them personaly for something you your self know nothing about is outlandish.

Brown and Fabor fought a damn good fight. Brown won because after his hands were injured there wasn't much he could do. You can clearly at one point see fabor shake his hound after trying to clasp both his hands around Brown in the clench. When your weapons are taken away there is only so much you can score points with. Brown out scored him on points during the fight. Does he deserve the win? Yes he does. He came out on top. Would fabor have won with his hands not being messed up? Who knows. It happend the way it was supposed to happen. But there will be more fights between these 2 champs thats for sure.

ps. If you dont have anything educated to say, just dont say anything at all.

I gotta say the broken hand thing is a lame excuse. it's a fight, you broke your hand, you loose.
It would be the same on the street. No time for excuses. I cant believe he talks about how he thinks the fight would have gone this way or that....if only .... dude wtf you lost

Ok, first off, Faber is not making excuses. Did he say he would have easily won if it werent for the broken hand? No. Faber broke his hand, yeah his mistake, but still, he went four more rounds without a right hand. All of you morons saying "he didnt break his hand in the first fight" dont seem to realize that being a one hit wonder doesnt make you a great fighter. Brown yes, is a very good fighter, but look how much trouble a guy with no hands was able to give him. I'm not saying that Faber would have dominated Brown if it weren't for the broken hand, but it would have been a lot different. The first round was self explanatory, and Faber was out classing him at every opportunity. A real fighter learns from his mistakes, Faber knows what kind of power Brown has, and because he got caught by one good punch does not mean that he is washed up and that Brown is the ultimate 145er of the universe. So get over yourselves and stop acting like a broken hand doesn't change anything or a one punch KO is a defining moment of a fighters career.

I think that its Faber's crazy swinging around that makes me like his style so much, but I also think that it was his downfall in these two fights. Brown is very composed and powerful and I think he is a great fighter. I would say the battle would have been close even if Faber's hands hadn't been injured, however, Faber was a flippin beast out there using wlovever he had left. That was so hardcore.
I was impressed with both fighters and really enjoyed the fight (though I'm more of a Faber fan, I think that Brown really rocked out there).
I would have liked Faber more if he had shown a bit more respect for Brown though. Yeah it wasn't really a fair fight through the rest of the rounds, but be sportsmanlike and say a few complimentary words to your opponent. I know he doesn't have to, but I would have respected him more if he had.

    Brown vs Faber
I was pulling for Faber but both are good or they wouldnt be where they are. I think the fight would have been a little closer if he hadn't hurt his hands but still one punch is all it takes and could have gone either way.Cant wait for them to fight again.

Because Brown didnt wreck him the second fight doesnt mean anything. It's Faber's wild swinging and so called "unorthadox style" that puts him in those situations to get jawed anyway. Maybe fighting without his hands should be under consideration for him

I have to give Faber his respect for toughing out a fight with a broken hand. I broke mine in a real fight and that was pretty much it for me. I know the pain. I also know that it was my mistake. I punched the guy in the top of the head. I deserved the ass kicking I got. Faber was throwing wild punches and broke one hand and injured the other. He deserved the loss. I didn't see the first fight but Brown did not show me that he was the champ in this second fight. I thought for a second he was going to lose to a guy who had no hands. so I would not say Brown was the better fighter "and thats that".

Man, you guys are just a**holes. Urijah fought 4 rounds with a broken hand. No one knows if Urijah would have won or not, but how can you still claim Brown is such a huge badass if he was not able to finish Urijah at all. If you look at the fight again you will see that the final 2 rounds Urijah was not punching with either hand. He said he hurt both hands and you can see that he is slapping Brown with his left hand.
All of you keyboard commandos talk all kinds of crap, and never give any respect to fighters. If you are such a badass, then why are you here talking crap instead of having crap written about you.
Brown has proven he is a great fighter, and Urijah has proven he is a great fighter with allot of heart, and still you guys claim Urijah is making EXCUSES, and basically whining!!
HE BROKE HIS HAND AND STILL FOUGHT TO A DECISION!!
    He deserves much respect!!

I think it's weak of Brown to not finish a guy with a broken hand. He wasn't even doing much damage.

A broken hand in a fight that went to decision isn't an excuse, it's a reason. Nonetheless urijah should really work on strength training, then it could be a blowout

Did the broken hand effect the fight yes, but however u still cant say faber would have won though cause say if faber throws a big right hand and misses and brown counters and KOs him. Its a completely different fight and could have had a different outcome and it could have gone either way dont make excuses faber
